The Element 2 electric Glider comes in Red with White Tips and a empennage.
CLM Pro has released a new model called Element 2 electric. This is a very light weight REF thermal ship (approx 315g empty airframe weight) and it is very stable and a joy to fly. The model is constructed using judicious use of carbon, so the strength to mass ratio is ideal.
The difference between standard and strong version of RC model Element 2 is the more heavily reinforced main spar and stronger D-box. The stronger version is about 30 grams / 1.05 oz heavier than the standard version.
The control surfaces are Rudder, Elevator, Flaps (REF).
Element 2 is designed for flying in the F5J category and other competitions It is especially competitive on light lift days.
As a recreational sport plane it is superb.
And now for the technical stuff:
The wing is constructed so that the center panel is straight, while the mid and tip panels are angled to add dihedral which gives the model good stability and easy handling characteristics during flight.
The center panel is a single segment, and the mid panel are joined with carbon joiners
The wings are constructed from carbon with full balsa ribs.
For the carbon D-Box a 3K hybrid carbon-aramid material of highest quality is used. The main spar is made of balsa, reinforced with carbon caps, wrapped in glass and finally wound in kevlar thread to give it even greater strength combined with the carbon D-Box. The wings trailing edge is made of carbon, and there are carbon cap strips on the upper and lower edges of the ribs. This provides greater stability and more strength to the whole construction. The flaps are full span on the center section of the wing and sports a kevlar live hinge. The wings and tail surfaces are covered with high quality Oracover, Oralight transparent film which weighs only 36g/m2.
The tail is made of balsa with carbon cap strips on both sides, giving it the necessary torsional resistance. The hinges are kevlar. The vertical stabilizer has a receiver tube made of carbon that allows the stabilizer to be easily attached to the pod's carbon tail boom.
The electric pod is entirely made of fiber glass and carbon, it is very light and strong and is is 2.4 GHz friendly.
The pod is reinforced with carbon in strategic areas to give it the proper performance. The canopy's opening edges are reinforced with carbon to keep it from wrinkling or cracking should there be a less than soft landing. The battery compartment is roomy with plenty of space to easily install all the necessary components. The pod comes with a removable carbon canopy. The firewall is preinstalled. It has a down thrust angle of 2°. Use a spinner with a diameter of 30 mm / 1.18". The final color is a white UV resistant gelcoat.
The carbon tail boom is made from several carbon types. The different layers are strategically oriented, so the boom has maximum strength and minimum weight. The carbon tail boom is 700 mm / 27.55" long and weighs 23g / 0.81 oz. The wide end is 19 mm / 0.74", and the narrow end is 12.5 mm / 0.49".
Carbon V-Mount has ID of 13.7mm / 0.54" and weighs 5.5grams / 0.194 oz.and comes with hardware.
CLM Pro uses A-rated epoxy resins, certified for aerospace construction for all parts made of composite material. The tail boom is post cured to achieve maximum strength.
Note: Since the model is designed and built to be as light as possible, it possesses excellent flight characteristics although slope flying is not recommended.
This kit is relatively easy fit out and finish as most of the tedious building tasks have already been completed.
The only things left to do are gluing carbon tail boom to the pod. Install the V-mount, then the vertical stabilizer to the end of the pre-prepared boom. Next is to install the control horns and push rods. The rest of the build consists of a pretty standard radio gear / power system installation.
