Using a covering iron thermometer can help yield better results by allowing you to know that your covering iron is operating at the covering manufacturers recommended temperature.

This thermometer is inexpensive and easy to use. Just set the thermo-coil on the bottom of the heated covering irons shoe and the metallic indicator will rotate around the dial and indicate the temperature of the iron. Easy peasy.
