Aloft Single Stick Kit

You asked and we listened! The first modern single stick radio has finally come to market after years in development. You might ask, what is a single stick radio?

Single stick radios were a popular radio configuration in the early days of radio control. Over the years all manufacturers eventually moved to the modern two stick configuration. At Aloft we had many requests to create a single stick radio that had the incredible programming power of OpenTX, and I think we delivered (and possibly a bit more).

Kit Details:

We will be offering the Single Stick in four different kit options. With or without the electronics, and with powder coated aluminum panels (black), or laser cut wood panels. The wood option really makes for a beautiful look and avoids heat and RF penetration concerns with the aluminum panels. We do not finish the wood, we let you have the options of staining, etc.

Wood versions use a wood back panel, the aluminum versions will use plastic back panel. (We found the aluminum back panels were not very comfortable.)

The Aloft Single Kit runs off of FrSky X10S parts in a custom shell, along with some slight electronic modifications. This gives you a great color screen, digital gimbals and pots, Bluetooth capabilities, and the ability to run both OpenTX and Ethos, giving you the the flexibility to fly and program to their heart's desire.

The Single Stick electronics use the FrSky ACCESS and ACCST communication protocols. We maintained all of the specs of the X10s, so 24 fully proportional channels and nearly unlimited model memories and the ability to mix anything.

The Single Stick sports FrSky's gimbal the MC12P. Entirely CNC'd from aluminum and riding on 10 ball bearings, this super smooth gimbals offers additional precision from the digital Hall Effect encoder system. This means the gimbals are more sensitive, with greater precision. The third axis potentiometer is also of high quality, produced by FrSky specifically for this project featuring hall effect accuracy and a velvety smooth feel.

The first thing that immediately struck me about the Single Stick was how comfortable it was to hold. The gimbals are velvety smooth and the switches and pots feel very nice while resting at your fingertips.

The radio features a 480 x 272 TFT daylight readable color screen. The large color screen and encoder wheel make navigation and programming quick and easy.

Great Project

I did the build myself from the kit. Everything fit perfectly. The finished project is gorgeous and while I've not used a single stick before -- my father built an 8ch single stick Heathkit transmitter 50 years ago. Dad rocked that transmitter until moving to Futaba in their early years, and has longed for one again in recent years. Curtis Youngblood who was an OG 3D pilot of helis, multirotors, and all sorts of aircraft. Curtis was thrashing using a single stick from way back. I watched some YouTube videos of him flying and that convinced me to try the single stick thing. While I've only used this radio with the RealFlight simulator at this time -- I find it's easier to coordinate the motion on one hand -- although it's a bit foreign at first.

Single Stick Transmitter Kit Review

As an old single Stick pilot, I am really thrilled to have a modern up to date Tx. The kit (Wood Version) is very complete and when completed, 9/11/22, very attractive. I now need to spend some time with it to set up the Ethos program for the first model I wish to fly.

Aloft Hobbies SS TX

The Kit looks good and is of good quality. Unfortunatley it will be awhile before I can start assembling it because of business activity. The only thing I have had a problem with is the assembly instructions. Although they are quite complete my computer will not print them because they are not page-anated. My computer is not in my workshop and I guess I could by a tablet, but a printed page would be much easier to use and certainly less expensive. I also discovered that the parts will fit in an old Orbit SS and am interested in purchasing another electronics kit.
