This small, but very powerful radio proves once again that big things can come in small packages.

This is the highly anticipated FrSky X9 Lite S. You'll first notice the beautiful metallic finish and silky smooth Hall Effect gimbals which will enhance your flying experience, allowing for greater precision than traditional potentiometers. A great improvement from the original X9 lite. It features a push button On/Off switch that must be held for several seconds to power up and power down the transmitter. The standard navigation buttons on the right side of the LCD screen have been been replaced with an encoder roller, making it easier and faster to program and setup your models.

It also features two momentary button switches at the top of the radio, which could come in handy for various functions such as a trainer which can be setup with the old buddy box cable or wirelessly.

Inside the radio is both ACCESS and ACCST firmware, so it will work with your ACCST receivers and modules out of the box. What is ACCESS?

ACCESS is FrSky's next generation transmission protocol that tremendously increases the capability of their transmitters. How, you ask? The following is a highlight list of the new capabilities of ACCESS.

  • The number of channels has been increased from 16 to 24.
  • Latency has been decreased. Lower latency decreases the time that it takes for a channel command to leave the transmitter and produce a result at the aircraft.
  • Binding, firmware updating and configuration of receivers can now be done wirelessly.
  • The introduction of Smart Match; once a receiver is registered to a transmitter, that receiver can be wirelessly bound to the transmitter without having to push the bind button on the receiver. Both the transmitter and the receiver cross verify each other during the bind process, providing a greater level of security between the transmitter and receiver.
  • Channel remapping; individual receiver pins can be assigned to any channel using the new "receiver options" page in the transmitter. This function helps to make setting up an aircraft easier and more goof proof than ever before.
  • Use the onboard spectrum analyzer to check for potentially intrusive or excessively strong radio frequencies (or RF noise) transmitting near your flying area.
  •  You can also use the Power Meter page to determine the RF output of external devices that transmit on frequencies between 900MHz and 2.4GHz.

We have just touched upon the capabilities and abilities of the new ACCESS protocol if you would like to know more about ACCESS click here.

On the backside is the usual Lite module bay which will accept all FrSky Lite modules.

FrSky has added this device to the battery compartment which allows for USB charging via the included USB cable and the use of FLAT TOP 18650 lithium ion batteries. It goes in between the two cells like in the included diagram:

Here is an example of the installation:

NOTE: We are getting reports of an issue with these radios. If your radio will not power on after installing the battery cells, please take a look at the insulation on the bottom of the cells. The insulation on some cells is excessive and does not allow a good electrical connection. Also, the insulation around the balance tap that is inserted between the cells can cause issues. Take a close look as this may need to be trimmed a bit to allow a good battery connection.

NOTE: FrSky has been putting ACCST Version 2.0x on these radios. We recommend coupling them with the newer ACCESS receivers or installing ACCST 2.0x on your old receivers if they will not bind to the radio.
