Here is a great little tool for finding and or refining the CG of your DLG. Proper CG is paramount for the initial stability of any aircraft but having the ability to make fine, repeatable adjustments allows you to experiment with the flight characteristics and performance of your glider. This experimentation can even help you understand a little better, who you are as a pilot. Will you find you prefer the high initial stability of the nose heavy condition, or the more lively, responsiveness of flying with a smidge more weight in the back. This tool can help.
One important feature of this balancer is that the adjustable leading edge stop is connected to the base of the stand and not to the arms themselves. This frees you from having to readjust the arm balance every time the leading edge stop is moved. The movement of the balance arms have been limited to 5 degrees. This keep your glider from sliding off of the balancer and also allows the balancer to be used as a work stand. Pretty clever.
The CG / Setup Stand comes as a kit. The parts are laser cut from acrylic and the hardware pack consists of 2 ball bearings, 2 screws, nuts and washers. Metric scale decals are also included; four sets to be exact, so no worries if you don't get it lined up just right the first time. Assembling the balance is fairly straightforward and most people will probably be able to finish it in 30 minutes or so. If you would like to peruse the build instructions, they can be found here.
