Do you fly 3 or 4 inch copters and wish you could carry an HD camera?
Would you like to squeeze more performance out your 5 inch Freestyle?
The RunCam Split may just be the system you have been looking for! No more cutting apart HD cameras and hot gluing the innards to micro copters just so they can record in HD.
Ask any pilot, weight matters. We have all flown our 5" freestylers/racers without our HD cams from time to time, the difference is palpable. This is a cake and eat it too scenario.
The camera; has excellent dynamic range and records beautiful HD video. The analog FPV feed is as high a resolution as we've seen and is a joy to fly. Don't worry, if you crash and eject a battery the Split will save your recording using it's file protection feature. Video is recorded onto sd cards same as usual but alternatively, you have the option to upload footage to your computer through the micro USB. The Split comes with a Bluetooth module that plugs into to the main board and allows you to change camera settings using RunCams phone app, which is truly a blessing if your frame doesn't allow you to reach the on board navigation buttons.
We recommend watching some YouTube reviews of this camera to help you understand the installation requirements so you will have a trouble free experience with your Split.
The nitty gritty:
Installation of this camera needs careful consideration to produce a clear FOV in the HD recordings. The Split's HD FOV is wider than it's FPV FOV, necessitating creative mounting so you don't see frame and props in the edge of your HD video frame.
The Split consumes 650mA of current at 5V so you will want to be sure that your regulator can deliver a 1 amp minimum output.
When plugging in the Bluetooth module be sure to orient it correctly; RunCam warns that the module will be damaged if plugged in backwards. The correct orientation is shown in the instructions as well as on the protective stickers that cover the main board.
Ok, I think that covers it. Enjoy!
