This is a really nice soldering iron! It is consistent, reliable, and it is as enjoyable to use on the bench as it is in the field. The design and build quality are very good on this unit. The housing is CNC'd aluminum and fits very nicely in the hand and does not get hot even when using it for extended periods of time. Another great feature of this iron is that the soldering tip simply unplugs from the handle. Just give it a little tug and it pops right out. This makes this iron super convenient as a field iron. You can store it in its box until you are ready to use use it, no tools needed to put it together.
Performance: The iron is surprisingly good for heavy trace PCB work given that it is an 18 watt iron. Just make sure you have enough solder on the tip to transfer the heat to the trace (This may be the number 1 newbie mistake). The small handle and the lightweight aspect of the unit makes getting into tight spaces easier compared with larger irons and of course, having adjustable temperature on a portable is just the bees knees.
Note: The TS80 does not come with a power cable or power supply. You will need a QC3.0 (9V 2A) power supply and a USB C cable to power the TS80.
