We think this faceplate looks great on our X9E shop radio! The plates are CNC cut from .17mm (.009) thick, 2x2 twill weave matte finish carbon fiber sheet. It is a good idea to test fit the plate to check for alignment and clearance. When we were satisfied with the fit, we removed the protective plastic and applied a thin mist of spray adhesive ( 3m 77, Loctite 200, etc) to the back of the plate and very carefully laid it into position, and voila!
Now includes a navigation knob cover. (not pictured above.)
Faceplates have a gloss finish that really looks great! The carbon fiber weave shifts in the light almost like a hologram. Very nice.
Note: Some plates will have a protective film in place that will need to be removed before gluing. This film is hard to see, so using a piece of tape on a corner and peeling the tape off towards the inside of the part is a quick way to test if the film is present.
This carbon fiber faceplate is a wonderful addition to my E. The appearance of the radio just went up $200 at least. I would go to say the E most likely should have had a carbon fiber faceplate like this as delivered. Note the faceplate I received did need some material removed around the scroll wheel hole to keep it from binding. I assume future faceplates shipments will fix this. (Note: Yes, they have been fixed.)
Suggest you practice putting it on several times without adhesive as I did simulating how you will handle it with adhesive. You may also find you need an alignment aid as I did but the practice should tell you that.
Thanks Aloft for a great product enhancement.
