An easy to build, fun to fly glider from Aero-naut.
The Lilienthal 40 can be built as a free flight or as an RC glider. It can be hand launched or bungee launched, and there is even a motor pod option for it too.
As always Aero-naut kits are very well designed, use quality materials and components and their instruction manuals are clear and concise. Many simple jigs are included with the kit that make assembly easy and accurate. This kit is simple enough to be attempted by young folks, especially with a little help from the tall people.
Have a look at the videos below. They will give you a glimpse into the build process as well as the flight performance of this uniquely designed aircraft.
|Wing Loading||9.7 g/dm2|
I bought this for my 12 year old to assemble with my guidance. It was pretty much perfect for that purpose and it's a great value at $65 or so. We built ours as an RC and for that purpose, it flies reasonably well. Better suited to stronger lift as it's about 8.5 oz AUW and -- wait for it -- the wing has no bottom sheeting! This came as a surprise as it's not shown or mentioned anywhere in the online materials or videos. The result is a wing that is sheeted on top and with exposed ribs underneath, creating a heavily undercambered airfoil. With all that said, it is fairly fun to fly in strong thermals, with the observation that it tends to waggle strongly in yaw, even hands-off. Not sure what is causing this but I've tried a variety of CGs and it doesn't seem to affect the waggling behavior. Nevertheless, it was cheap, easy to build, durable for my daughter to fly and performs pretty well. We used emax 9051 servos and a 1s 380 lipo. It took another ounce in the nose to balance.
Is the fastest shipping I've ever had
