Welcome to the Stingray. We like to think of this as a beast of a glider packing a ton of performance in a very pretty package. This plane has gained a large following in Europe where they love her for big alpine gliding, and or also powerful electric and turbine builds. This is not a thermal glider!

If you are looking for a airframe capable of sustained high G acro, this is the beast you want! While similar to her sister ship the 3.2 meter Swift, the Stingray has a much thinner fuselage, still a ton of room inside, but that thinner fuselage really helps maintain your energy.
You would normally pay a lot more for a plane capable of these level of performance, but Mawi strikes a tough balance keeping the prices reasonable. While she may not be perfectly blemish free paint, she will do all of the right things in the air! This is a plane that will put a big ol' smile on your face as it rips up the sky. Here is a little video to give you an idea:
This is not a lightweight, she will need strong slope lift to perform to her potential. You feed her the right conditions and you are going to have big fun. She is available in 4 different layups: Glass, Competition, Performance and Performance PLUS. The Competition version is designed for flying as a pure glider or with an electric system. The Performance version is intended for turbine power and very dynamic flying (as shown in the video above). There is a fourth version, Performance Plus for customers who want an ultra-strong model. Our normally stocked version is Competition as it is a great mix for most pilots.
The 2 piece wing has a massive carbon joiner. The all flying tail has set screws to secure each side. The large wing surfaces make for great acro, but also allow for easy landings with the large flaps. The wing uses a Selig S6061m a high-efficiency, low Reynolds airfoil.

Servo recommendation (or similar):
Elevator: KST X10
Rudder: KST X10
Aileron: 2x KST X10 or larger
Flaps: 2x KST A12-T or larger
Suggested set up:
CG Range: Between 107 and 110 mm for most pilots (start at 108)
AUW is about 6kg
Butterfly: Flaps: completely down, Elevator: 6 mm down, Ailerons 10mm up
Ailerons: 16mm up, 12mm down
Flaps as ailerons: 6mm up, 8mm down
Elevator: +/- 20mm (high rate)
Rudder: +/- 45mm (high rate)
Launching: flaps 3mm down
Speed setting: ailerons & flaps 2mm up
Thermal setting: ailerons 2mm up, flaps 6mm down, rudder +/- 32mm
Wing incidence (full flying elevator): .5 to 1%(1% is the suggested setup for the maiden flight)

High quality standard sized servos with metal gears with high torque are suggested for the ailerons & flaps. Most people are using large servos than suggested above.
A great forum posting on this model can be found on this German forum: HERE
Check the forum for some of the improved linkages people are using on the elevator.

As a side note, the manufacturer, Mawi is run by an individual named Bartek, and he has been producing fully molded gliders commercially for a very long time. Chances are you may have flown one of the old Blade series, if so, those came from the same hands. He has a reputation of building good solid planes for all of us crazy slope pilots. We are pleased to team up with Bartek and bringing his newer designs into your grasp. Heck, if you want a Blade, good chance we can still order those in for you.
