FrSky Remote ID - FrID

A bit about Remote ID - Basically if you are flying outside of an FAA FRIA, then you pretty much need to have a Remote ID module broadcasting some simple data about your models flight path and a serial number. This serial number also needs to be recorded with the FAA via their site. There are some exceptions to this rule, very light models, flying from some approved events or within an approved FRIA zone. Many club sites will have a FRIA.

The FrID is a simple unit that meets the FAA requirements and is very easy to use. Simply apply power and it starts working. It will need access to pick up the GPS broadcasts, simply place it in a spot in your model so the "UP" sticker is pointing towards the sky without any large carbon or metal structures in the way.

You will need to go to the FAA web site to register your module, and they will need the serial number for this. The best way to get the serial number is to use a drone monitoring app (we like Drone Scanner) and it will show you the serial number pretty much as soon as power is applied to the module. GPS location data will be populated as GPS satellites are discovered, it may take a few minutes to get a solid GPS lock.

The FrID has the added benefit of sharing the GPS data to your receiver via telemetry if you plug in the included harness. (Harness may need to be modified to work with some FrSky receivers.)Another handy feature is locating a lost model, as long as the FrID is getting power it will do its best to send out its current position, so load up your favorite Remote ID app on your smartphone and you are in business. There are a range of fun things that can be done with the data from a remote ID module.

Here is the mumbo jumbo from FrSky:
The FrID (FrSky Remote ID Module) is a device in compliance with the FAA ASTM F3586-22 Standard. Attaching the FrID module to a Drones or RC aircraft, it can broadcast the route and other required information according to the standard request, and all the information will be transmitted to the monitor App in real-time for getting a compliant and safe flight.

Additionally, by using the FBUS/S.Port capable receivers together with the FrID module, all the telemetry information of the module can be read directly on the radios.
