Using a razor plane can save tons of time during model construction when compared with trying to remove large amounts of material using a sanding block.

Construction:

A folded steel shoe ground flat on the bottom with a steel blade support and adjustment screw, resulting in a hand plane that is great for working balsa as it is far lighter than traditional cast iron hand planes.
